Hillfield Animal Home, Hillfield Lane
This summer has been one to remember at Hillfield with both the Summer Fair at the animal home and Bark in the Park in Swadlincote being a huge success! Alongside that we found forever homes for over 100 animals over the summer period. As an independently funded animal home, we rely on fundraising and donations to keep the home up and running and caring for all of the animals that come through our doors.
One of the things we have used kind donations for, is creating a new, safer, cleaner exercise compound for our dogs to enjoy off-lead time.
LazyLawn came in May and kitted it out with artificial grass that will not only reduce the mud in winter but also the endless cycle of cleaning that comes with it! Take a look at the progress pictures on the right...
Adopted by Kerry & Mark on 22/06/18
Alvin came to us as one of 3 kittens that had been born inside a roof space and retrieved by our very own Animal Centre Manager, David Dubois. Kerry and Mark visited and fell in love with him immediately as he’s the spitting image of his now adoptive sister, 3 year old Mia. Kerry and Mark said; “He’s full of mischief and a joy to have around. We’re just glad we could give him the life he deserves with lots of love and Dreamies!”
Our cattery is fit to bursting point, if you’re thinking of adding to your household please come and visit our centre and give a cat another chance at a forever home.
Adopted by Nikki & Daniel on 15/09/18
Darcy was originally transferred to us in February from another branch of the RSPCA, by the time september rolled round Darcy had been in rescue kennels for a total of 10 months. We at Hillfield couldn’t understand it, this lazy, cuddly giant needed her chance at a forever home but no one was even glancing in her direction. That’s until Nikki & Daniel came along and fell in love with her instantly. “She’s settling in so well! No crying at night anymore, she’s doing so well! She loves running around with dan around the field at the back of us. We’re so in love with her. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to love and care for such a beautiful soul.”
Adopted by Amy Harris on various dates
Amy adopted Toffee (now Poppy) on May 5th as a buddy for her male ferret (Frank, also from Hillfield). Over the 8 weeks to come, Amy tried her best to socialise Poppy and Frank but it was to no avail. By this time though, Amy had fallen in love with Poppy and her loving personality. So, back to Hillfield she came and picked up Candy & Floss - the ferrets that Poppy originally came into the animal home with. After a weeks re-socialising it was clear that they were so happy to be reunited. Amy says, “I’m so happy they’re here, I can’t imagine life without these troublemakers! I feel like they were waiting for me to realise that Poppy needed them! Candy is now Binx and Floss is now Sasha and everyone is so happy!
Hillfield Animal Home Christmas Market
As Christmas approaches, we’re beginning to plan our very first Hillfield Animal Home Christmas Market. It is set to take place here at the animal home on Sunday 2nd December, 4-8pm.
We’re hoping to include various gift & craft stalls, festive activities & music, mulled wine, roast chestnuts and many more seasonal delights! Keep an eye on our website for more details on what we hope to be another popular annual event from your local RSPCA branch. As always, all proceeds will go straight back into the animal home.
This year, our calendar will feature 12 of the animals that have been adopted from Hillfield over the last 12 months. The calendar will be available from our Swadlincote & Burton shops and the animal home itself so ask a member of staff for more information!
